How amla oil is made
Like bhringraj oil, amla oil is an infusion rather than a pressed oil. Dried amla pieces or fresh fruit are steeped in a carrier oil over low heat or over days, until the oil turns golden and carries the fruit's tart, slightly fruity scent. Cheap versions use a drop of amla extract in mineral oil; a traditional version uses the fruit itself in cold-pressed sesame.
What it does for hair
Amla is the shine-giver. Hair that has been oiled with an amla-rich blend and washed properly lies smoother and reflects more light, which reads as gloss.
