Asked often
Questions about the herbal scalp oil, answered.
Everything we are asked on WhatsApp and on the phone, in one place. If yours is not here, ask us.
The oil
What exactly is in it?
Cold-pressed sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum), tulsi leaf (Ocimum tenuiflorum), amla fruit (Phyllanthus emblica), bhringraj (Eclipta prostrata), brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) and neem leaf (Azadirachta indica). Nothing else: no mineral oil, no silicones, no synthetic fragrance. The same list is printed on the bottle and on the buy page.
What does it smell like?
Green tulsi first, then warm sesame and herbs. There is no synthetic fragrance to linger; the scent fades after the wash.
Will it leave my hair greasy?
It is an oil, and it sits in for a few hours; that part is honest. Then it rinses out with one gentle shampoo, twice if your hair still feels heavy. Our wash-out guide has the shampoo-first method.
What will I notice, and when?
Softness and shine tend to show within the first few washes, and the warm, settled scalp feeling after every massage. We do not promise regrowth or miracles, and we never will.
Using it
How do I use it?
Warm a spoonful between your palms, massage into the scalp in slow circles, leave three to four hours or overnight, wash with a gentle shampoo. Twenty minutes, once or twice a week. The full step-by-step guide is here.
How long does a bottle last?
Most people get about a month of weekly rituals from the 100 ml, often more; the 200 ml roughly doubles it. Bottles get shared, so sometimes a little less.
Is it safe for coloured or treated hair?
Oils like this are commonly used on coloured and treated hair, but every scalp is its own. Patch test first, and ask your doctor if you have a skin or hair condition.
Is it safe during pregnancy or on a sensitive scalp?
It is a topical herbal oil with the full label printed above, but we are not your doctor. Please ask yours first, and patch test.
Who is this oil not for?
Anyone who wants a quick fix, and anyone with a diagnosed scalp condition who has not asked their doctor. It is a cosmetic oil for softness, shine and a settled scalp feel, used slowly.

Words you will see on the bottle
Champi
The Indian head massage: warm oil worked into the scalp with the fingertips and the heels of the hands. The ritual at the centre of everything we make.
Cold-pressed
Oil pressed from the seed without added heat, so it keeps more of its natural character. Refined oil is heated and treated to be neutral.
Bhringraj
Eclipta prostrata, the classical Ayurvedic hair herb, called Keshraj, ruler of the hair. Read the bhringraj guide.
Infusion
Herbs steeped slowly in a carrier oil until the oil takes on their colour, scent and character. Our oil is an infusion of five herbs in sesame.
Patch test
A small amount of oil on the inner forearm, left for 24 hours, before first use. Sensible with any new product on the skin.
