In the classical tradition
Classical texts call sesame the king of oils, and traditional hair preparations begin with it almost by default. Unlike mineral oils, which were unknown to the tradition and which sit on the hair's surface, sesame oil was prized for how readily it works into hair and scalp during a long massage.
What it brings to your hair ritual
Sesame is the texture of the formula. Naturally rich in minerals and fatty acids, cold-pressed sesame oil sinks deep into each strand rather than coating it, leaving hair silken and supple instead of greasy. It carries the infused herbs where they need to go and rinses out cleanly at the end of the ritual.

Why sesame instead of coconut oil?
Both are traditional, but the classical texts favour sesame as the universal carrier, and its lighter, deeply absorbing character suits a leave-in-overnight ritual better than heavier solid oils.
Will sesame oil make my hair greasy?
Used as directed — warmed, massaged in, left for at least two hours or overnight, then washed — it rinses cleanly and leaves softness rather than residue.
Is the sesame oil refined?
No. We use cold-pressed, unrefined sesame oil, which keeps the minerals and character that refining strips away.
